Bhojpuri Awadhi Association of North America (BAANA) organized its very first Global Bidesiya Convention at Courtyard By Marriott, Dallas Carrolton Conference Center, Carrollton, TX on Saturday, November 4th, 2023. Dr. Ratan Pal Singh Member of Legislative Council and representative of a large Bhojpuri population of eastern U.P was invited as the main guest for the event. The event got support from Minitry of External Affairs, India. The theme of the convention was “Reconnecting Bhojpuri Culture Across the Globe”.
Bidesiya culture has spread to different parts of the world through migration. Today, Bhojpuri is spoken by over 50 million people in India, Nepal, Mauritius, Fiji, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Suriname, and other parts of the world. It has a rich cultural heritage, and its literature, music, and art have contributed significantly to the Indian cultural landscape.
Convention was attended by over 400 participants and had two segments. The first segment was moderated session to discuss how Bhojpuri culture in various parts of the world has evolved over the years, and how we can better connect and bring awareness for our future generations. The second segment was to celebrate our rich cultural heritage where local and international artists will perform Bhojpuri music, folk songs etc.
