Established in 2007, BAANA (Bhojpuri Awadhi Association of North America) is a vibrant community dedicated to celebrating and preserving the rich heritage of people from the heartland of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
Based in Dallas, Texas, and guided by our community leaders like Dr. Nandlal Singh, Mr. KN Singh, Mr. Shailendra Singh, Deo Singh, and many other dedicated individuals, our association has become a pivotal force in uniting families with their cultural roots and supporting communities both in the USA and back in India. Through our community services and cultural festivities, we foster a sense of community and connection among those who share a passion for our multi-generational traditions.
Our mission revolves around helping those in need and celebrating life to the fullest. We are dedicated to promoting not only the languages, arts, and cultures, but also the societal values of unity and togetherness that define our community from Bihar and UP. This commitment is reflected in our community service initiatives, including food banks, blood donation drives, and other charitable activities that benefit both local and global communities.
We envision introducing these languages into American universities and advocating for their official recognition by the Consulate General of India in Houston and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations in New Delhi—an autonomous organization of the Government of India involved in India’s global cultural relations. Through cultural exchange, the creation of a global Bhojpuri magazine, and radio channels, as well as the standardization of grammar and the expansion of access to Bhojpuri media and literature, we aim to bridge cultural gaps and enrich the lives of both our members and the broader public. BAANA stands as a beacon for cultural preservation and a bridge connecting the vibrant traditions of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand with the diverse tapestry of North America.
