It all begins with an idea...
Established in 2007, as BANA (Bhojpuri Association of North America), and re-named as BAANA (Bhojpuri Awadhi Asscoiation of North America), we are 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, dedicated to celebrating and preserving the rich heritage of people from the heartland of India – the Awadh, Purvanchal, Bhojpur, Mithila, Magadh, and Santhal regions.
Based in Dallas, Texas, founded and guided by our community leaders like Mr. Sailesh Mishra, Dr. Nandlal Singh, Mr. Shailendra Singh, Mr. Deo Prakash Singh, and many dedicated individuals from Bhojpur region became a pivotal force in uniting families with their cultural roots. Over the time, with our dynamic diaspora and celebrations of various cultural events, such as Makarsankranti, Holi, Teej, Chhath, and others, we have fostered a sense of community and connection among those who share a passion for our multi-generation traditions thus connecting people culture and language globally. Our mission extends beyond celebration; we are dedicated to promoting not only the languages, arts, cultures but also the deep societal values of unity and togetherness that define our community from Bihar and UP.
We envision introducing these languages into American universities, advocating for their official recognition by the Consulate General of India, Houston, Indian Council for Cultural Relations New Delhi India – an autonomous organization of the Government of India, involved in India’s global cultural relations, through cultural exchange with other countries and their people; and creating a global Bhojpuri Magazine and Radio Channels. By standardizing grammar and expanding access to Bhojpuri media and literature, we aim to bridge cultural gaps and enrich the lives of both our members and the broader public. BAANA stands as a beacon for cultural preservation and a bridge connecting the vibrant traditions of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand with the diverse tapestry of North America.
